Advances in fat removal evolved when laser fibers were incorporated with liposuction cannulas so that fat could be melted and suctioned out of the body in a systematic fashion.
This technology led to the name Smart Lipo. There is an added advantage of the heat produced when the fat is melted which can benefit tightening of the skin.
Smart lipo is similar to Vaser Lipo which utilizes ultrasound energy to selectively melt fat, tighten skin and reduce irregularities. Smart lipo can be performed under local anesthesia for small areas of the body and face.
